Dear Editor:
Some of the students at USI that are in English 201 classes are participating in a public sphere day projects. This project involves the students doing research around the Evansville area and around campus. The main idea is for the students to be able to get their ideas out to the public on something that they wanted to be changed or added to USI. Their ideas can include changing or joining already existing programs or even to the extent of creating their own organization. I choose do a project that involved protecting our environment.
The project that I choose for my public sphere day is to inform the students on the benefits of creating a conservation and wildlife management programs and projects around campus. I choose this project because of the location of USI, the location of campus includes many lakes and hundreds of wooded acres that would be the ideal setting for carrying forth many projects. The benefits the students would achieve from these projects obviously include maintaining a healthy and safe environment and students would also be able to get outside of the classroom and be involved in experimental learning. It is proven that students will remember information longer if they are actually doing hands on activities. This is a way to get some of the students away from their everyday lecturing classes. I believe that most students around the campus do not pay any attention to their surrounding environment and this idea would be able to inform the students of many things and also get them involved in many projects. Some of the projects the students could get involved in would be land surveying, vegetation, sampling, GPS technology, and working with animals.
Overall I believe protecting the area that we have left around campus is very important. This is a way to get the students outside and experience may different types of learning skills. Creating this project will help me inform the students on something most of them do not pay attention to. I am counting on this project to be very successful and fun. I am hoping to change the student’s views on conserving the land around them or maybe encouraging someone to take this project farther than I am.

Public Sphere
The public sphere project I choose to do was to create some kind of conservation and wildlife management groups around campus. These groups or orginizations would be involved with conserving the land and the enviornment around campus. I am not totally sure what projects we are going to try and do at this point. One of them I have in mind would be to clean up the outdoor theatre on campus which is recently convered with falling down trees from the past winter strom. Most students have never seen this place but it is up by the baseball fields in the woods. I thought this would be a good to create these groups to conserve all the surronding wooded acres and lakes that USI campus is lucky to have.
Getting groups together that perform projects outside of the classroom is good for the students. They would be able to get outside and participate in experimental learng by doing hands on activities. It is proven that students get more out of projects if they are hands on activities. This would also get students away from their everyday lectures.
I planned on setting up a booth on the lawn with a big tri-fold poster board loaded with infromation and pictures. I would also like to play a video that relates to conservation or wildlife management. I would also make flyers on the specific project that we could do for public sphere day.
Overall I think this project would be very successful and fun. It would allow the students to get outside and expeirence many different type of learning skills. Even if i do not get anything started maybe I will influence someone else to get something going.

A Look at Evansville
If someone were to come to visit Evansville, at first glance they would notice many stoplights, warehouses, and construction. They would also notice it is a fairly large city for its surroundings. If one was to read the Evansville Courier press they could find out a lot about Evansville and what this place is all about. You probably wouldn't be able to tell the political standpoint of Evansville with out doing a little research. Most people would think they would find us as conservatives. Evansville has a wide range of people. Overall Evansville is not that bad of place to live in.
What I have analyzed over this past week in the courier press is that it is focusing most of its headlines on the stimulus plans and other government projects to help up get out of this recession. I believe this is appropriate information that has come up on the headlines because of the tough time our economy is facing at this point. They might also bring this point up because of Evansville is feeling the the effects locally of this rescission. Most people have and they would like to know more about it and I think this is why this topic has came up in our headlines over the past week. The Courier press has also been bringing up many topics about Evansville going Green, or environmentally clean and efficient. They also have been covering many political views and topics. I haven't been able to understand if they try to talk about political arguments that Evansville people would agree and take the Conservative standpoint that most peole in this region would.
Connecting this topic to the University of Southern Indiana I have also realized this same topic and arguments have been occurring in their Newspaper the Shield. The sheild does a good job when coming up with issues to write about. Looking at the Courier press compared to the Shield, I can relate a connection that they almost have the topics as the Evansville newspaper but the Shield focuses more on a college atmosphere. They do a good job on relating to their audience. I do not regularly follow the Shield, besides this week when I've been following along and analyzing it. I think the shield is important for USI students to read. The one thing I find weird is that they are hard to get a hold of the actual paper unless you are on the Internet. This makes me wonder why they don't have more places where you can pick one up. If they did this I think they would have a lot more followers and more people to send in opinions on what point they stand behind.
Along with watching the papers I have been looking around campus for public literacy and other things. I came to find out that there is not a whole lot of it around. I do not understand why they do not have more events posters or public literacy around campus. The one kind of public literacy I do see is when people write on the ground with chalk all the time. I am not sure why this is the only kind of public literacy I am finding. I am going to continue to pay attention and look harder for public spheres around campus.

Hard Work Pays Off
Question 1: Overall after the event was done with you feel like you have accomplished something many people have never accomplished before and you realize all the hard work you put into will eventually pay off at the end. Physically and emotionally I was tired of doing all the hard work but I kept going. All this hard work went into hunting whitetail deer. It may seem funny to some but there is a lot more work put into then one might think. Every day I could get off I would sit in my climber waiting for that one chance to harvest a mature whitetail. This meant getting up at three in the morning every time and driving to Santa Clause In.
Revised Analysis
I think she was right on when she said I really understood the writer. I think she could see this through my writing. I believe if she was able to understand or connect with my writing she could have helped me out about my analysis. I understand thought if she does now follow along with my writing it is hard to help me analyze it. I agree with here statement about meeting the requirements of the assignment. I tried to and I believe I did.
Political Compass
After I got done taking the test, I found out that I was in the normal range for people. I believe the reason for this was because on most of my responses none of them were strongly agree or disagree. I now know that was the factor from keeping me from being extreme. I don't know if the survey was really accurate because on a lot of them if I would have had the questioned explained to me I might have answered them differently. I think this helped me understand that I need to do a little work on my political knowledge. Overall I think it was a good thing for me to take this test and see where I stand in society.
